Welcome to the first of several newsletters that will recap various segments of our “State of the District” update from this year’s annual meeting. Upcoming newsletters will highlight co-op and youth apprenticeship participation, industry certifications earned through our tech ed department, participation and accomplishments in extra- and cocurricular activities, budget and finance updates, as well as school safety. If you would like to learn more about our district, please reach out to our superintendent, Kevin Bruggink. |

For many of us, the ACT was once a test taken only by students pursuing a college degree after high school. However, in 2015, Wisconsin began requiring all public school juniors to take the ACT as part of the statewide accountability system and school district report cards. Since that time, our district has consistently placed in the top 10% of school districts (click graph to enlarge). These strong academic outcomes come at a time when the statewide average ACT score is decreasing.

The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you. |

Success is not the destination, but the relentless pursuit of growth and improvement. |
|
In an environment with significant parental choice regarding their children's education, our academic outcomes provide a firm foundation for families in the area who are deciding where to enroll their child. In a region with many strong school systems, OSD sets a high bar for academic impact. The ACT measures the College and Career Readiness Standards, and these graphs show statewide trends and how Oostburg compared to other schools in our area during the most recent assessment period. We believe that consistent results over time are an important consideration when evaluating our academic impact. We recognize that some schools move in and out of Wisconsin’s top rankings depending on the makeup of a particular class. We take pride in the fact that Oostburg has consistently placed in the top 10. (Click on graphs to enlarge) We believe this affirms the strength of our systems, the commitment of our staff, and the investments made by our community as we all work together to ensure high levels of learning for the next generation. |

Greatness and nearsightedness are incompatiable. Meaningful achievement depends on lifting one's sights and pushing toward the horizon. |

All students can learn at high levels equipping them to become productive and positive contributors to society and the world. |
